I know I have told many of you that I would like to have a fun scrapbook weekend thing around here sometime this Spring. Well, I finally have the motivation. Greta is always the best way to get me in gear, but she is only truly effective when I already have a vision. So, I finally have that vision, and I wanted to let you all know that there will be a great scrapbook weekend in May, and I will kick it into high gear to get you more details very soon.
One of the biggest things I want to share with you is what finally gave me a vision of the weekend. Tonight, I went to a banquet to sponsor one of my dear friends who is moving to Africa to work in a village to help them become self-sufficient and break the cycle of extreme poverty. I promise, I'm not about to turn into Sally Struthers here, so stick with me...
One of the speakers repeated one of his favorite quotes, and it will NOT get out of my head...
One Life.
One Moment at a Time.
Make it Count.
That is what it's all about! That's what everything is all about! Do you not scrapbook to preserve the tiniest details of your life? But for whose benefit? Your own? Your children's? A lot of people don't understand why I scrapbook the way I do. There is no real organizational process I follow when it comes to the act of scrapbooking. I choose something that is important to me for some reason, and run with it. It could be something from yesterday or ten years ago. As I mull over the things I've done and where I am now, I have no choice but to think about where I am heading. What is going to be included on the next page of my book?
Now, I'm not equating scrapbooking with selflessly moving my family around the world to better an entire community. I am simlpy reminding all of you that this whole crazy world of scrapbooking is not only about recording the past and present. It's about learning more of who you are, and finding a way to meaningfully express that knowledge (even if that expression has nothing to do with paper and embellishments). There really should be substance in our lives if we feel that we should spend all this time recording it, right?
Okay, so... Scrapbook weekend in May 2009. More details to come!
